Gary Molloy, 42, an artist from Hackney, East London, was  diagnosed with the condition after struggling for years with mental problems. He says: “It started in my 20s when I was in my final year at university, striving to pass exams. I wasn’t eating or sleeping and was binge drinking. The mood swings became worse and there were times 
when I had great plans to set up my own business and believed I could take over the world. Then there were the terrible lows that could last for months.”

Hoxton artist who suffered decades of mental illness finds salvation in his work

GARY Molloy was a 21-year-old computer science student when he first became ill with bi-polar disorder.
Instead of pursuing a career after graduating from Greenwich University, he spent the next decade in and out of hospital suffering from crippling bouts of mental illness.

It seemed the nightmare of severe depression with bouts of psychosis would never end - but then Gary turned up at Core Arts.
